TGIF!!!! From the colors in our cover shot, we're going to have to go for really bright crayons today.
This week has really shot past me for some reason. Maybe it was because I was chasing weather for most of it. Anyway, have a great Friday & if all goes well we'll be perfectly lined up for the weekend.
What's this I hear???? Weather people are babbling about snow on Sunday!! Sure hope it is only the hills/mountains they are talking about. Carl, you may get some of it if there is enough moisture in the system.
Getting colder here with that s word being tossed around. Good thing is that it has been so warm if it does snow not much will stick to any thing.
In house computers are still down. I don't know how Freddie does it, I am so bored with nothing to do. I guess the bright side is I'm getting paid time and a half today to be bored...
Mariposa - Time and a half for Friday? I could live with that!!! But, just think of how much catch-up work you'll have to do when the system gets back online.
Carol - Blame it all on the groundhog! But, I'm prepared no matter what it throws at us. Ya gotta love four-wheel drive.
Waiting for the system to get fixed now there's an exercise in futility. Yes I know how much catch up work there will be, along with every one wanting every thing NOW. Time and a half on Friday is because I work 10 hour days. Lately when I get home I pretty much fall asleep until it's time to start the insanity all over again. Such an exciting life I lead...
Carl, I think they are 'blowin smoke' but we'll see. At least you won't be trapped.
It's really nice here today..birds are chirping, little crocus are blooming....my front porch need washing :( might do that after lunch. Our grass is even starting to grow in places, it looks funny.
Mariposa: at least you're being paid to be bored! I do know how that feels though, I would rather be busy. Do they allow you to read on the job? Speaking of reading, Joe finished King's 11/23/63 and now I'm on page 245...I have until March 1 to finish it, but if I don't, I'll pay the library fines until I do. It would take months of waiting to re-order it again, there is such a waiting list....I could buy it, but since I can get it free, why bother? I think I'll be done it time or shortly thereafter. It is soooo good, it's hard to put down!
Carol - My Crocuses bloomed last week so now I'm waiting for the hyacinths and daffodils. They're up & budded so it's just a matter of time. I actually would like to see a little more snow or at least some good drenching rain. The trees I've planted are going to need moisture to get them through the summer and I don't irrigate. Oh well! The ones that don't make it can always be easily replaced. I always lose a small percentage to rodents and deer browsing so a few more won't kill me I guess. The snow and rain we've already gotten should be enough though.
Carl, it's Oregon and it's only Feb...we have a long way to go before July 5th (when summer starts) until then, we will earn our nickname of 'Webfoot' I am sure :)
Carol - I'm sure you're correct about the webfoot status. However, the period right after planting is the most critical for the bare root seedlings because they're just coming out of hibernation and need to get their roots down. What happens now determines how well they handle summer. If they establish a good rooting, they'll do fine. But, for now I'm just a passenger on that train so all I can do is wait and see.
Carol the lavender one I have from Mom is about 50 years old. She had the plant for as long as I can remember. When we moved her from home to a nursing home I divided the plant three ways so my brother and sister could have part of it. I have the only little piece that survived, and I baby that thing so it will last another life time.
Carl, when the seedlings were planted where they were probably soaked with water but I can understand your concern if you cannot get water to them. Rain is coming tonight...actually is has already started here. You may get a bunch, I hope so now.
Mariposa, so great you have a peony tree that old!! Don't blame you for babying it. I have probably passed several of them, but didn't know what they were. I am used to seeing the peony bushes. I love the flowers on them, but they need to be staked and often aren't so they (like a lot of long stemmed plants) fall over. It's sad to see them just laying down, and sometimes broken off. I stake all my Glads and Dahlia's.
Carol - The seedlings come straight from the nursery cold storage directly to the planting crew. They are in bags of 200 trees to the bag and there is no "soaking" involved. They go directly from the bag into the ground and then you hope for rain to water them in. When planting 500 trees to the acre you can go through thousands of baby trees in a very short order.... ten acres equals 5000 trees. The volume of trees to be planted just doesn't allow any delay in getting them into the ground. Right now is just the "nervous" time period for the two "clear-cuts" I bought and replanted. But, the trees are in the ground now and the rest is out of my hands. It's been warm and wet enough that they should already be sending out roots so I'm probably just being a worry-wart. I'll probably lose more to deer and rodents than I will from non-rooting.

Carol it is a good book, and hard to put down. That's why I finished it so fast.
Mariposa, that is for sure, I'm now on page 274...I may beat that March 1st deadline after all :) only 575 pages to go!

I'm getting ready for some spring planting. I found a plant I just can't resist.
Oooooh, pretty! Shall we have them ship you one of each color?
Carl I have the other colors also a lavender one from Mom. I just need to have a yellow one.
Pretty plant!! Didn't know peonies came in a 'tree' variety.

Carol - I use tomato cages for my tall flowering plants like Glads. It's cheap, quick and very easy.
