Well THIT! Happy Thursday all. We won't be breaking any records today, but we will still be above average. I'm looking forward to my weekend off and maybe some sleeping in.
For some reason I'm thinking I have already put up the Yaquina Head lighthouse on a cover page. But, I went back in the archives & can't find it if I did so......??????? Anyway, if you've previously seen today's cover shot just write it off to my advancing Old Timers CRS!
It has been snowing at varying rates for almost 24 hours now here at mi casa & I'm beginning to think Mother Nature might be trying to make some kind of statement. It's all that blasted groundhog's fault!!!!
It's still right at freezing but the snow has stopped falling. Kinda pretty out but I really HATE having to be out in it. I haven't measured but it looks like maybe 6" or so on the ground. I can only guess that The Heights have a LOT more. Maybe I can follow the Groundhog's example and crawl back into my burrow for six weeks???? Of course, the next phase will be the GIANT melt-off and all the rivers will be running over their banks. That's the way it always goes here in "O"! But, that's part of the GREAT THING about living on high ground... I can just watch it all flow downhill and sympathize with the people who built with a river view.
Mariposa - Maybe you could send a little of that "unseasonably warm" temps back this way?????
Well glory be!!! It has stopped snowing and now the sun is out. It's still cold though so I think I'll just stay in until I'm forced out by the need for lunch in about an hour.
Well old man winter (or that %$#@ groundhog) can't leave us alone.
Woke up to about 2" on the ground, could have been much worse but for some reason the NE part of town didn't get as much as the other parts. (Hallelujah for us)...anyway, it's mostly all gone. That will probably be it until next Dec.
Mariposa - Yup! And booze! Long live Captain Morgan! I'd walk through waist-deep snow, uphill in both directions, in sub zero temperatures in my bare feet if I knew there was food & drink waitin' for me. Today it's gonna be Taco Time for a sweet pork burrito, a bavarian creme empanada, and a small pepsi... the pepsi only because they don't have rum. There's no doubt though. It's gonna be a four wheel drive trip.
Carol - We can only hope on the "last of it until next December." When I was a kid, we had snow on the ground one year on the Fourth of July! That was in the hills outside of Longview at about 1000 feet.
Carl, I know...I remember snow in May in 1961 but apparently it wasn't enough to go into the record books as they are not mentioning that. They said this mornings snow set a new record for snow this late in March recorded at the airport since 1946 (think that was the year). Before that year the gauge was in downtown. The way it was stated, it sounded like there has never been snow after March (until, of course, the winter months of the same year).
At least at this time of year, it melts very fast.
I got a real surprise when I went out for lunch. I was in soft sloppy snow for about a half mile then the roads were completely bare. And, Estacada only had spots of snow on the ground. Then, by the time I came back home, I was on bare pavement all the way home. This snow is so saturated with water! Understand, I'm not complainin'!!! I'm just surprised it even stuck and built some accumulation in the first place. BTW... the sweet pork burrito was so nummmmmmy!
Ummmmm.... btw. That bavarian creme empanada is on their menu at something like 200 calories. I wonder if that's a misprint and it should be an extra zero... like maybe 2000?
Mariposa - With my daily cocktail of 36 prescription pills, a bavarian creme empanada couldn't possibly do any permanent harm. There's a lot to be said for "living better through chemistry!"
OSU's 16 point win was good enough to put them into the Elite 8 and that ain't too shabby!

Carl I keep trying but the wind seems to be coming from your direction and it won't go very far west:(

bavarian creme yum yum
And, it's deep fried & then rolled in a sugar/cinnamon mixture.
All the things that taste sooo good but are sooo bad for you.
OSU managed not to lose tonight, I thought for a while they were going to blow it.
