I haven't figured out what breed this little hooter is. He's still got all his baby fluff rather than feathers so it's hard to tell. I think he's either a Barred, Spotted, or possibly a Short Eared.
I'm guessing he either just recently fledged or is about to but I couldn't find a nest nearby. He could also be a VERY immature Great Horned but it's hard to tell without his adult feathers. Anyway, he's definitely cuuuuutte!

Carol - Left over from yesterday: I didn't want to bring it up but a few days after you did your face-plant, I did one off a curb. I knocked the skin off both knees. What a CLUTZ! Looking down, I just cannot judge curb height. I did it right in front of two cars waiting to cross. One driver rushed out to help me up... a real nice guy. The other one just laughed. Lousy PUNK! Karma's gonna get him! I wish I knew some VOODOO
Carol from yesterday. Freddie's offer to help would have been nice if it involved more than sitting on the forklift and putting the skids of wire on the shelf. It's not like I had to physically lift all seven skids. On the up side he did get around to changing some lights that have been out for months. That's the way it goes around here.
Mr Ed, Ouch on your face plant!!! Or should I say 'knee plant', the scabs just fell off my knees a day or so ago..they are still deep pink. If you took your glasses off as you approached a curb or stairs would that help any?
That owl is sooo cute, they are my favorite bird.
Mariposa, guess you just have to be glad ol' Freddy is gone most of the time. With my big mouth, I'd probably tell him off and I'd be the one fired.
Carol - Taking the glasses off might help.... if I gave it any thought. It usually happens when I'm in a hurry. I keep forgetting that my weakness is Kryptonite... and curbs. Stairs are intimidating but aren't a problem. I make it a point to keep a death-grip on the rails. Ditto on your comment about Freddy. I'd have him backed into a corner. I never did have enough brains to just turn and walk away.

Mr.Ed, yes! that face is toooo cute!
My favorites in the owl family are the Northern Pygmy and the Saw Whet. So little and sooo cute. They are loud, despite their size. I've never seen a real one, only pictures.
OH I have Freddy cornered all right. His corner is inside a truck ;-)
Carol - The Screech Owl is not too much bigger than the ones you mentioned and they are native to this area. You don't see them much because they are nocturnal and they are so small.
Mariposa - Being outside on deliveries setting your own pace... completely free from the office... Somehow that just doesn't seem much like a penalty to me. If his pay is cut along with that it becomes a different story and definitely a penalty.
Me Ed the pace is set by the dispatcher. Freddy doesn't have time to loaf. Today he has the Cincinnati area, the regular driver is on vacation. I know where Freddy will be for the next week, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Now, THAT sounds like a very short leash!
Mariposa, at least he won't be bothering you. :)
