Ooooohhhh! Saturday! I like those!

Today's cover pic is a Crocosmia. It's a cousin to the Gladiolus and grows from a Corm in a clump... similar to the way Gladiolus grow. It's a hybrid with its origin in South Africa. For control, it's best to dig this plant's bulb-like corms in the fall and plant them again in the spring.

Mariposa - Left over from last night: It's usually the trucks with no load or with light loads that end up upside down. That's not hard and fast but it's just easier to make them turn-turtle!

With the internet tracking: It's amazing WHO is engaged in the large-scale tracking. It won't take long and you'll notice a sharp drop-off in the targeted ads. Where I noticed it most was when I was shopping for my new camera. I was getting camera ads from everyone A to Z & all points in-between. There were companies I had never heard of but they knew exactly what I was looking for. So much for the "privacy" of the internet!

Hi you two....as to the pop-up ads Joe must have installed something on my computer as I get no pop-ups at all! Yay!!
I was just looking for window washing companies yesterday (for the outside of the windows). No pop-ups :) I just want an estimate, we tried washing ours last summer, and finished one side of the house but with storm windows that need washing (both sides) and then the windows...arghhh...too much work!! I want the front windows done. We'll see how expensive it is.

Carl, that varigated Canna is beautiful. I see those in yards around here. I'll look it up, it may be perfect in our back circle.
Most of the trouble with those large, broad-leafed plants is they get shredded in the east wind, which is what blows at us most of the year. Fortunately our house will block that as it faces east, so whatever is in the back is rarely blown around.

Greetings from Las Vegas!! What am I doing here???? It is HOT! I'm gonna pick up my rental car & crank up the air conditioning!

Carol - There are several variations on the coloring of that Canna. I think the one I used for the cover pic is the darkest with the most contrasting colors. There are much brighter and lighter combinations also.

The Do Not Track software doesn't just do the pop-ups. You can turn those off without doing much that will slow down your computer! DNT+ also works on the ads within the page itself. It just bothers me that THEY can snoop into our computers and then sell all the information to the highest bidder. If you want to see if they are harvesting info from your computer, just pick out a topic... say cameras(Canon EOS), or flowers(specific plants), or office supplies (office furniture, printer ink or whatever), and visit a a few sites looking for whatever it is that they carry. Then just sit back and watch. Within a day you will start noticing ads aimed directly at those items you were testing. If it doesn't bother you or if Joe has already blocked it from happening, Yaaaaayyy! You can block all the sites from putting cookies into your machine but many sites will simply refuse to work without the on-board cookie. Or, they will slow down to the point of total frustration.

As I said earlier, since I installed DNT+, over 12 thousand tracking attempts have been stopped from probing my computer. I can live with that.

On the subject of computers: Have you all checked yours for the
July 9th Trojan Virus? You can go to Google & find out everything you need to know and do. I already ran the probe on mine to see if it might be infected but it's clean. This is one of those Trojans that your standard security software cannot stop.

I'm gonna head out of this coffee shop & get this show on the road. :O)

Afterthought: Here is all the info you need on the July 9th Virus. Seriously, this isn't a joke or a prank. I know, you've heard that before but this is very, very real.

Carl, I checked with Joe on that July 9th Virus and he says it's bogus. Don't worry about it.

Carl...
I hope your aunt is doing well.

Carol - The FBI is pretty certain it's not so good luck with it.

I meant to ask earlier but did anyone watch Charlie Sheen's new TV sitcom? If so, what did you think of it?

Carol - Auntie Em is doing well. We're going out to dinner in a little bit. She has just been SO BUSY with all the activities she's into and all her new friends. I think she doesn't understand my concern because keeping her busy and happy is all I was looking for and she is doing that "very well!"

Carl, I don't understand your comment at 6:42. Joe has been aware of that virus for awhile but it is something that large establishments can have happen and not so much the casual home users, although he said they will know if they have it as their computers won't work but it would be rare.

Mr. Ed said...

Carol - They have put together a simple test to determine if your computer has the latent virus. Believe, don't believe... it really comes down to one ultimate test. Joe is correct in his analysis and on July 9th your computer will be able to get online or it won't.

You have never seen any such warnings on this blog before because I'm with Joe in believing that most of these things are just crappola. I'll be very happy if, on July 9th, a large balloon pops up saying "April Fool." Our F.B.I. says it's real. If on July 9th I can't access this blog, I'll know for sure it was real but I'll go to one of three other computers to take care of business as usual. They can't all be bugged because they normally aren't all online.

I put this on the blog because all credible sources say it is real. You certainly have "free will" and what you do with it now is up to you.

I put this strip of more Canna pix together. I had these shots still in the camera so here's putting them to a good use before I delete them.

Mariposa - I'm up to 15 thousand blocks! They must really think I have a life.... or something.

Mr. Ed said...

Carol - My Techie now tells me that the current versions of Anti-Virus software on the market include the scan for the July 9th virus. :o)

Mr. Ed said...

Personal comment to self: I'm so glad I made sure Auntie Em stayed connected online with a very good desktop computer. I hate my laptop.

mariposa said...

Carl I have 500 blocked so far.

I tried looking at your pictures but it tells me it's private and to enter a password. I think photobucket hates me.

I'm glad to hear Auntie Em is doing well.

Mr. Ed said...

Mariposa - I'm still learning my way around Photo Bucket.... my bad! Try This.

What looks like a duplication of pics 3 & 4 is actually two different shots. One is with flash & the other is without. It was what I thought was marginal lighting so I did it both ways. But with the new camera, it made no difference that I can see. I am getting so SPOILED!

Thanks Carl that worked. I try to bring more color into my flower beds with different leaf colors also, it makes a big difference when thing are not blooming.
