Day Lily

Today's cover shot is just another of the unusual flowers my MG friend imposed on me this year. I know very little about this particular Day Lily but it has been very prolific with the blooms so far.

How's your weekend going so far? My saturday was a long, HOT one. Eighty-six in the shade is nothing like 86 degrees on the seat of a heat generating piece of equipment. I spent the entire day on the seat of my John Deere trying to gain control of that which is beyond such a foolish notion. I'm still working on the two properties I acquired this year with no real end in sight. That's the problem with buying auctioned properties when the prior owners were total failures with them. It takes a lot of patience and TLC to turn them back into something worth having.

Have a BODACIOUS Sunday! Hopefully, Mother Nature will serve up some weather that won't suck the life right out of you. :o)

OOOHHHHH Carl I just love a Day Lily.

Cooler temps today but not by much. I'll take any relief.

Hope your day is a great one.

From the swamp - Good Morning! How's your day going so far??? Of course, there's a lot of day left to go but......

I would like to introduce Joey! Joey is a stray(I'm guessing two to three years old) that found mi casa & decided he wanted to stay. He has been hanging around for a month or so and it has taken a lot of effort to get him tamed to where he would trust me. Long story short: I took him to the vet on Friday to get him checked out (blood tests - shots - thorough medical exam, de-fleaed, and treated for a nasty collection of ear mites) and to have him neutered. I had checked with all my neighbors and it seems that no one within a two mile radius had ever seen the cat. Anyway, during the exam, the vet determined that Joey had been shot in the head with a B.B. or pellet gun at some point and that he had an absessed wound that went clear into a sinus cavity. Yesterday, Joey underwent surgery to clean out the wound and he is now on a heavy dose of antibiotics to help him get over the infection. And, this morning he came home from the vet and I introduced him to the isolation of my cat room. He will be quarantined for two weeks. You probably wonder; Why all this trouble for a stray cat? The answer: Because he came to me needing help. I hope I eventually find the person who shot him.

Oh, Carl, you are a sweet man!! That is one lucky cat!! He must have sensed you would help or he wouldn't have stayed so long. I'm so glad you are the one he found and trusted.

That Day Lily is very pretty, I have some but they are all the ordinary orange..they are in the back yard and I sort of remember years ago transplanting them there from the front yard.

I see lily's in yards that are similar to the Day Lily, but are on tall stalks and have very bright blooms...orange, red-orange, yellow, etc. I cannot remember the name. I would much rather have those than mine. Hmmm, will have to look that up :)

Carol daylilies come in a wide array of colors. There are also Asian lilies They grow on a single stalk with short leaves. as opposed to the long slender leaves on the daylilies.

Mariposa, thanks for the pictures of the Asian Lilies, I think that is what I have been seeing...I have only glimpsed from the street as we are biking by but the stalks are tall and the leaves are short and pointed. They are in a large grouping, tightly planted and make a brilliant display of color.

If you look at Joey's picture, you can see the wound. It's directly on a line straight up between his eyes and an inch or so up. I get so PI$$ED every time I look at it. But, he's adjusting to his new surroundings and doing very well! He starts purring immediately when I put my hand out for him to smell. He's really very sweet. I don't know how the other cats are going to do with him but we'll work it out!

Carl, the picture is too dark to see the wound. So glad he is adjusting and purring. Gotta love kitties!!

Mariposa - I suspect you are looking for something larger than what it is. If you look, you will se a small white dot. That dot is about a quarter of an inch in diameter and it's the entry wound. It's not very big but a BB or a pellet is pretty small. I'm sure glad it wasn't a bigger caliber.

I think it's easy for me to see because I know exactly where it is.
