Hoo Doggies! I hope your Fourth was half as good as mine. Nothing special beyond the traditional Rodeo, good friends, and fireworks but it was a lot of fun. If you have to go back to work today... I'm sorry! But, two quick days and it's back into the weekend. Having a holiday in the middle of the week just doesn't seem right. I guess it would be tough to celebrate the Fourth on the Seventh or something else though.

THIT - Have a bodacious Thursday! Oh! And welcome to the real start of Summer in Oregon! Highs expected today... in the 80s!

It's one o'clock and the temp reading is 88, I don't believe it, it feels closer to 98. Hot and humid I think I'm melting...

Carl, that rose is just beautiful!! I love roses, but don't grow them .. too much trouble with black leaf, etc. Now I just enjoy other people's efforts.

Glad your 4th was fun. We didn't do anything. Lot's of noise last night, earplug didn't help but at least the 'war' settled down after 10:30....and I went back to sleep.

Gorgeous day today, went on our bike ride early, not a cloud in that very blue sky. Welcome summer :) :)

Mariposa, I couldn't live in that heat and HUMIDITY. Were you born there? I think that is what has to happen in order to put up with it. Just like our grey skies for many months out of the year can really get to some people...hey, it gets to a old die hard Oregonian like me once in awhile too.

Carol Ohio born and bred. I'm not sure how well I'm tolerating this stuff. This is just an unusually hot summer. I remember some summers growing up it did nothing but rain. Some years you get the good weather some years you don't.

I understand it had been unusually hot and moist through most of the center of the country...many states cancelled their fireworks displays.

We are enjoying the sun and the humidity is at 25% with the temp now at 83....just perfect!!

Carol - Of all the rose colors, the reds are the most intense. I never noticed it before but I'm finding that through the lens of the camera, every rose is different.

Did you read (in the Oregonian) that Fairview is trying to bring a mothballed Aircraft Carrier to a moorage on the Columbia as a floating museum. A freakin' Aircraft Carrier!!!!! I wonder if they've thought about putting it in Blue Lake or Mud Lake. Just a thought! I don't know how they'd get it there but hey, that's not my job!

Carol - I've never had any problem with Black Spot or Powdery Mildew here in Dodge. I think Black Spot is in the soil and it's either there or it's not! There are chemicals to fight it but I've never had to. Powdery Mildew is caused by wet foliage. I never water the roses with a sprinkler and I make sure the plant is nice and open so it gets good air circulation for when it rains. I think proper pruning is the entire key to being successful with roses.

The only real problem my roses have is from the deer munching on them occasionally. But, as you can see from the pics I've put up, that isn't even a real problem. I spray a deer repellant on the flowers the deer are attracted to & that keeps them away fairly well. These deer have so much food available, they're just not hungry! But, they do eat certain colors of Tulip blossoms no matter what I do. So, even though I do have Tulips planted, I won't plant any more.
