TGIF!!!! With the Fourth holiday right in the middle of this week, it's almost like we're having two Fridays and two Mondays! I think I kinda like it! Can we have a do-over next week? Puh-leeze????
Today's cover shot is self explanatory. Until I got this new camera, I don't think I ever noticed how raindrops beaded on some flowers. I don't know but I think there's a natural waxiness to them. Anyway, it makes for a very pleasing visual presentation. Let me know when you get bored with them.
Have yourself a fabulous Friday. Just get through it and the weekend is YOURS!!!
Mariposa - I keep hearing the news reports on the heatwave that your area is going through.... It's UNREAL! It makes me so glad I live here in the swamp. We've just turned the corner into summer with highs only in the 80s. It just doesn't get any better than that. Hang in there & drink lots of water.....
Carl, you listed all the reasons I don't plant roses anymore :) They are just too much trouble. Our yard is not conducive to them. I wouldn't be able to avoid watering them from overhead as I use a sprinkler in the back yard and we have an automated system for the front yard. I like plants that are not fussy...and have most of what I want and those that I don't have require more sun than our yard gets.
As Mariposa stated, I will never tire of your beautiful flower pictures.
Carl, from yesterday - I didn't read about the aircraft carrier they want to bring here as a museum. Hmmm...I believe I heard a pitch about a year ago about that. Supposed to be a money maker and further, if there was a natural disaster (think earthquake) it would be a great place to have emergency medical treatment available. The thing is HUGE...so a lot of people could be accommodated.
Believe it or not I spent a couple of nights on an aircraft carrier once. Many years ago when the son was a Cub Scout the pack made a trip to the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point. The boys slept where the crew would have but us Moms were treated to the Junior Officers quarters. It was a fun experience once don't think I want to try it again. There was also a side trip to Fort Sumter that was really interesting.
Carol - The thing with roses & water is that they need a chance to dry before going to bed at nightfall. It's fine to use a sprinkler in the morning... which is the best time for watering anyway. Just don't put them to bed wet when it's warm. Wet - cold is fine! That and keeping the foliage pruned for the air circulation and they're fine!
My neighbors all resent the fact that I can grow roses & the deer don't bother them much. It doesn't seem to work that way for them.
Marposa - During my six years in the Navy, the closest I ever came to a boat was 500 feet above an aircraft carrier's flight deck. We were supposed to land on it but we got waved off. :o)
Carl, I always water EVERYTHING in the morning and when I did have 'patio' roses, they were fine until one year they developed black spot. I had 2 plants in my circle and both were infected so I dug them out. I guess something changed in the soil. Anyway, I ended up planting all those bulbs. A friend gave me a wonderful suggestion...buy 4" pots of perennials now and put them in. I just saw an ad in the paper today from Fred Meyer - 4" pots for 99 cents! Limit one flat but that should be plenty and being small plants, I can put them in the circle without disturbing the bulbs. They still have time to get established before fall and hopefully I'll have blooms all next summer after the tulips, etc die down.

Gonna be another hot one today, triple digits again.

Carol - Blackspot is also airborne so it could have come from anywhere.
