Today's cover shot is a great example of why I love the Oregon coast. There is so much diversity and if you get bored, all you have to do is move a few miles to a completely different landscape...
Yeah, the Oregon coast is beautiful but the weather the last 3 or 4 years has really been bad. The locals are even complaining. There is the occasional nice day but they are hard to predict. We haven't been down there for over a year. We used to go several times a year and a always could count on the weather reports. Not anymore.
Carol - My good friends who lived at Gleneden Beach have given up on the coast also. They still own their house but have it rented out on a long term lease. They got tired of 55ยบ cloudy days & have moved back to Terrebonne. I've managed to hit nice weather on several of my coastal trips but a lot of times you deal with cloudy mornings. I've noticed that if the valley is getting winds from the west or northwest, it's probably cloudy on the coast. That's not always true but it has worked for me.
Carol/Mariposa - Have you noticed a spell checker working on the blog? I just saw a word (where I transposed the letters) correct itself right before my eyes. It's either a spell checker or I've got a little gremlin in there somewhere.
Hmmmmm I just deliberately mistyped clouds as clousd & the little red line appeared and then it changed to the correct spelling. I just typed it that way above and it left it alone. What???
Mr.Ed- there is no telling what computers will do at times! Of course we like that as it provides income.
Funny you mentioned Terrebonne, that is not a large place and we have in-law type relatives living there. I think my son might be familiar with it as it is the 'jumping off' place for Smith Rocks and he used to climb there several years ago.
Carol - I've been to the top of Smith Rocks several times but for the life of me I can't remember why. I guess it's because you don't have to be a serious climber to scale it. About half of the Terrebonne population lives at Crooked River Ranch. It's fairly nice in the summer but for me it loses its appeal in the winter. And, I'm not really a fan of the snakes. The canyon is full of 'em. It's okay I guess but you have to really watch where you walk and specifically where your next step is going to be. I've come close to stepping on one several times. It's not because the snake didn't try but I've never been struck... only a couple of close calls. It's boots and long pants in those areas.
I've never been near Smith Rocks. I (we) do not like that rocky, dry, snaky type area. Give me green trees, green grass, water, mountains, ocean, forests...those I enjoy.
I agree! You don't see me living there. Nice to visit for a BBQ but watch where you throw the frizbe.
What a wasted day today has been. I had to wait around for the appliance repair guy to come & work on the dryer this morning & then I had another eye exam. No shot this time... just a progress check. Good news though. My left eye (the gimpy one) checked in at 20/60 today. Not perfect yet but steadily improving. They had it at 20/80 two months ago. And, my right eye is getting to where it wouldn't even need glasses.... much stronger just because it has needed to be. The left eye was at 20/300, almost legally blind, when they started the injections so I guess they can be considered a success. I think I'm becoming the "poster boy" for Lucentis.
It really seems strange to be home. The cats were all weird but have settled down now. Joey has a vet visit tomorrow. I've got some serious questions about that cat that I hope the vet can answer for me. He's just not like any cat I have ever had and none of the others like him. He's not aggressive but they all are afraid of him. It just seems like there's something I'm not seeing.
Carol - It's really hard to put a finger on what it is about Joey that makes him seem different. I guess that's because it's everything all put together that is unlike any other cat I've ever had. I mean, he's a cat but he's one-of-a-kind... whatever he is. I just wish I knew what that was. I'm thinking of having the vet do a DNA analysis to figure it out if that's possible. We'll see.
The entertainment value of this blog depends upon the contributions of those who visit. If you have something on your mind... toss it out and see who responds. If you have nothing on your mind, a simple "hi" is always nice.

Mr. Ed, let us know about what the vet says about Joey. It's weird that the others are afraid of him. Hope some light can be shed on that.
Such good news on your eye!!
