Early session on tap with my cardioquacks today. It's always so much fun butting heads with them. They really get upset with me when I tell them "no"! The newest fight is over meds. It's been almost four years since the blowout & I think it's about time to do a drastic cutback in them. I'm tired of feeling like a zombie while they keep my BP in the basement. I could understand the need while the Aorta was still healing but that hasn't been a problem for at least two years. It's time for me to get back out in the deep end of the pool!
Well, the quacks are concerned now about what they call "an irregular heartbeat". They say that a recent monitoring they did showed that my pulse "stopped" several times for different lengths of time... one as long as six & a half seconds.... GASP!!!! I'm surprised I didn't suffer brain damage after that long. Wait a minute... maybe I did and it's so damaged I just don't know it. Four years on DRUGS and they're just now getting worried about SIDE EFFECTS?????? Long story short... they've got me all wired up with a ten-lead monitor I'm carrying in my shirt pocket that is connected to various location sensors. I gave them 24 hours and then I'm mailing it back to them. They wanted me to BRING it back because it might get lost in the mail and I said BULLFLOP! I'm about ready to throw all their damn pills away and take up meditation to control the cause.... HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! I am tired of them chasing trails of pixie dust down blind alleys rather than dealing with MY BLOOD PRESSURE problem. BTW... My lack of concern is because I was first diagnosed with an erratic heartbeat forty years ago and it hasn't killed me yet. I don't think my original doctor had the spare time with nothing to do but time my pulse durations on a stopwatch. I HATE DOCTORS!
Mr B/P....now that you've elevated your pressure with said rant and nothing happened maybe that's a good sign. Then there is the other side: If your chronic high B/P is the cause of your blown aorta and the meds have lowered the pressure so your aorta is now healed, if you don't take the B/P meds the same thing could happen again. There is no real 'cure' for high B/P, once you have it, you have to be on meds. They don't know why people get it. Same with a lot of diseases we humans get. Be patient (no pun intended) and be thankful that you are not in an urn on someone's mantle.
Carol - It's not the meds they use to control the high BP. It's the ones they use to enhance them with pulse controls plus all the "blockers" and meds they use to control the side effects. There are two meds I take that directly work on BP with direct corrections of the arteries. All the others are to control the heart... which, except for being slightly enlarged, was fine until the blown out aorta. Now, it's back to normal size and resiliency and I have no valve, vascular, or chamber problems... NONE! Ordinarily, they would expect my heart muscle to be toughened and thick due to the extra work it did for all those years but it's NOT! The problem is that they keep screwing around with HOW and HOW OFTEN it beats. They've been doing that with meds for almost four years. They took me off one of them last week and I went into an episode I could write a book about. Of course, they never provided me any advance warning about what to expect with the "cold turkey" stoppage of the med. Between 11:00PM and 3:00AM... it was pretty scary at mi casa because I had no clue what was happening. I was ready to head to the ER! I'm just tired of being treated like I'm incompetent. And, I'm really tired of just blindly following orders without having any input in the matter. They want to just write out a prescription & have me take the pills with no questions asked. And, they don't bother to keep me in the loop on side or long term affects. I haven't had a naturally occurring A-Fib since the Aorta blowout. But, I'm taking one med that as a side effect CAUSES A-Fib and I'm taking another one to directly control A-Fib. Then I'm taking another to thin the blood(rat poison) so I don't have a stroke from A-Fib. Do you get the drift yet? If I threw all that crap away, I could take two pills a day to address the root cause of the high bp. As it is, I take 36 pills a day(a small handful every six hours) and each one has its own list of side affects. My Aorta is healed. We've established that with cat scans and echocardiograms. Yet, they don't even want me going to the Carribe because of their unreal fears. Keep my bp within normal limits (130/90 or less) and leave me alone to live my life. They're still trying to maintain my bp at 120/60 or below with a pulse rate less than 60... all the time. I think that's because I'm part of the 10% who even survive the split Aorta. The damn thing is healed! Leave it alone! Hell, teenage girls don't have readings that low! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
My latest direction to them is for them to stop chasing trails of pixie dust down blind alleys and to deal with the number one issue... BP at REALISTIC levels. I have FIRED cardio quacks before and I'm not afraid to do it again if they don't start LISTENING. In the meantime, they've got less than 18 hours before this monitor comes off my chest. ☺
I'm getting a better picture. Surely you have discussed (and cussed?) these various pills with the Dr's. I guess their explanations as to WHY you have to take them are not making any sense. Doesn't make sense to me but I'm no Dr. Guess you'll have to fire this bunch too. I am sorry for all you are going through!!!
Is it only me who is SICK, SICK of hearing people (obviously younger) use the "LIKE" every other word? I know we all have "our words" in each generation but this one is so stupid. It seems that no one under 45 can say even one sentence without using that word at least 3 times!!! I can just hear the speeches in the future. Or how about a wedding...."do you like take this like woman to like be your wife?" The older people picked it up from kids and somehow it sounds even worse coming from them.
That is my rant for the day. (I got all riled up when listening to a goofy talk show a few minutes ago...I turned off the radio)
Carol - I was afraid it was "like" something I said. ☺☺☺
I just called them a little while ago & advised them that my bp was 170/110. They were a little upset when I asked them if they even gave a damn about that or if I should just continue to count my pulse rate. They're still screwing with pulse dosage without any consideration to the bp.

By Jove! I couldn't have put it better!

There goes the BP again!
