Mr. Ed - do you remember Pal's Shanty, a tavern on 47th and NE Sandy? Very early this morning there was a fire and it's practically destroyed. It's a wonder the 2 businesses on each side of it weren't ruined but in looking, they seem to be fine. That tavern has been there since the 30's I think.
Mariposa, so happy to hear you get tomorrow off. Hope you will get some more soon, seems like you really deserve them after working 7 in a row.
Carol - Pal's Shanty??? In the Hollywood district? It had "knock your socks off - to DIE for" seafood. Their Razor Clams were the BEST in Portland. Their Clam Chowder was soooooo gooooood! What a LOSS! I didn't know they were still around. I haven't been there in at least twenty years.
Mariposa - Is it safe that they are giving you that much of a "head start"??? You could be a LONG ways down the road by the time they started looking for you.....
Mr Ed, yes, that Pal's Shanty. It was also famous for it's shrimp salad. I haven't been in there in more than 20 years, probably more like 30. I used to go to the hairdresser right next to it. The little space right on the corner of 47th and Sandy used to be Chin's Kitchen (back in the day) but now, after several restaurants have come and gone it's Killer Burger...they also have a big restaurant downtown (I only discovered that as I passed it going to have some jewelery of my Mom's appraised). Hadn't been downtown in that area for dog's years either. Shame about the Shanty, hope they will re-build.
And I, being the anti social loner that I am, will be going out to a restaurant for T-Giving. I've had TWO lovely ladies trying to convince me to let them do dinner for me but I refused both offers. It just seemed like too much of a commitment to accept either offer.

Carol - Their Crab Louis was a big favorite. It was always "FRESH" Dungeness Crab..... so good!
Mariposa - Are you going to do the traditional "family" dinner?
I guess it is about time I think about a menu.
My sister in law will bring a ham and I will come up with the rest.
