Today's cover shot: If it doesn't inspire you I think we need to take your pulse. This arc is a very rare variation of a Sun Dog. The way it sits above this old house lends a very ethereal look to the shot. I had to remind myself to breathe.
Well, I got back from Az in one piece. Had a good visit, her city is really pretty. Only small drawback to the trip is the long 3 hour ride from Vegas, although the shuttle van does make a pit stop half way through. I'll probably go down again next Spring though and she will be up here at Christmas.
Mr Ed, Interesting about your inheritance of property in Oz. I hope it comes to something you can keep if lucrative, or sell if you don't want to mess with it.
Mariposa, how goes the battle with Freddy? Is the poor invalid back to sloughing off his work yet?
Carol - Welcome back! Glad your visit with sis was a good one. I wondered about that shuttle ride... I'm not sure I would want to do that but you never know until you try something.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!! What is that intensely bright ORB hanging out there in the sky????? It's too intense! I can't take it! I need to make a run for lunch or I'll just waste away..... But it's so BRIGHT!!!! Where's my spf 50????
Mr Ed...you are right about the shuttle and I'm glad I tried it but next time I will rent a car. The highway to her is not the best in spots but if I go in the daytime, I'm sure it will be fine. That way, I won't have to get up a 0:dark30. It will also eliminate the fear of missing a flight or getting a very late start from Vegas and making the 2nd lap of the trip toooooo long.
Carol - Renting a car is always more expensive but I like that it gives you total command over your schedule as well as where you go and what you see and do. The down-side is that unless you have a co-driver, you don't get to lean your head back and take a nap while you're traveling. I always buy the insurance they offer so I never have to worry about dings, scratches, or even wadding the car into a ball. None of that stuff ever goes on MY insurance. I already pay too much for insurance with five vehicles to keep covered so I don't need a car rental agency after me for some imaginary damage I'm not responsible for causing. I like to keep my life as simple as possible. (good luck with that)
Mr Ed, as usual you are a font of knowledge! Give me your thoughts on the following: I rent a small, gas-saving car in Vegas, drive to my destination and turn it in there. Then, 3 days later when I want to leave, I rent another car and return to Vegas. It wouldn't make sense for me to keep the first car for 3 or 4 days as my sister has her car. Is that possible?
Carol - Almost anything is possible when it comes to car rentals. Get a quote on it both ways & see how it pencils out. And, check with more than one rental agency. They want your business so they will try to accommodate what you need. I usually end up with either Budget or Dollar because they aren't the largest and they seem to "try harder". I almost never use Avis or Hertz... they're always more expensive and don't offer anything extra for the cost. All of them will provide roadside service at no cost if you need it.
Mr Ed, thanks so much! I wondered too about getting the insurance and since you recommend it, I'll do it. Is it much more? I've never rented a car. (could you tell....LOL)
Carol - I think the insurance is $20 - $25 per day... but I'm not positive on the exact amount. You might also check your credit cards to see if any of them offer the insurance for free when you charge the rental. If you use the cc insurance you have to REFUSE any insurance provided by the car rental co. I think most Visa, MC & Discover accounts offer it. American Express only offers secondary insurance with your own car insurance being the primary one. I never do any of that stuff.... I just BUY the full insurance they offer... no hassles, no pain that way. As I said, I can wad the car into a ball of scrap & I can just give them back the keys. I kind of like that since that can happen while it's parked... even if you are nowhere near it. A million things can happen to that car and you're much better off without any liability for fixing it.
