Today's cover shot: What's this old home saying to you? To me, it's a piece of history and it whispers secrets if you listen closely. It's always sad to know they are at their end....

Sunday! Going to end up being a stormy day here in the swamp but it's still a few hours out. That four letter word is back in the forecast but it'll only affect the higher elevations such as the Heights and Oregon's Cascades at the pass levels. But, it'll bring temps back downward again. It's a good thing I got all my mowing done at mi casa on Saturday. For once, planning ahead paid off!

If you have nothing planned, put your feet up and have a relaxing Sunday! I think I'll do exactly that!

My last day to get ready for my trip. I'm mostly all packed but have to do some cooking today so Joe will have something to eat. He can fix his breakfasts and lunches but dinner is iffy. I showed him how to bake the battered halibut he loves. Also, I have several entrees in the freezer (all home made) so he can defrost what he wants. I am making a potato salad today and fixing another salad he eats daily, so he should be all set.

That old house in the cover shot looks sad. I always want to know the year built, and when deserted and why. Probably the "old folks" just died and none of the kids (if there were any) wanted it.

Carol hope you have an enjoyable trip. I'll be hanging out at work. Probably be stuck with Freddy for a few days. Wonder if I can trip over something and get some time off???

Carol - How long is your trip? But, no matter how long it is it will be both too long and too short. Enjoy your time with your sister.

The house in the cover shot is over a hundred years old. Most of the old buildings just gradually get neglected on upkeep and eventually it gets too expensive to update them to current code standards. Plumbing and electrical are the biggest problems but so many of them have so much deterioration of their structure due to rot, mold(due to water leaks)and dry rot (due to poor ventilation). Reality is that no matter how much history they have, they are a "money pit" when it comes to restoration so it's cheaper to tear them down and build something new. When it gets to the point that you're afraid you'll fall through the flooring, it's time for them to go... no matter what they look like. I've had to level a couple of them over the past few years and I always hate to have to do it. But, I love the stories they tell.......

My trip isn't for long - Leave tomorrow morning at 7:13 and come back Thurs at noon.
I may stay longer on a future trip, who knows. This one is to "get my feet wet". Flying once a decade doesn't make for a good traveler. We prefer road trips but the distance between here and where she is is a shade over 1200 miles which would take us too long by road. Joe can't be away for 2 weeks and that is what it would take since we take our bikes with us and stop for the night at about 6:00. That way we don't get in very many miles per day, or want to.

Mariposa - Laughing at your 10:53. Maybe you can trip over Freddy as you kick him in the butt!

Mariposa, I like your idea of tripping over something and taking some time off. Maybe then ol' Freddy would actually have to do some WORK.
