Pretty plant, my folks always called those "Mollis" azaleas. In doing a bit of Googling, I found that they are the same plant. Mollis is the more common name here.We pass a beautiful deep orange one on our bike rides. The ones my folks had were yellow.
Mariposa - Ummmm.... I had a comment about bosses & baby diapers but I'll be nice & won't use it. Good luck with getting him trained. I hope it works out better than it has with Freddy.
It's a little chilly here in the Swamp this morning but the forecast is good for the entire rest of this week. Is that POSSIBLE???? I could use some sun & mid 70s!!!! Then I'm on the Alaska cruise beginning Saturday. That could be FUN but I suspect it's going to be on the chilly side! This time of year.... the last of May & the first of June... is about as close as they get to Summer in Alaska. I've never been on a cruise where I had to take warm clothes & a heavy jacket so this is a first. It'll be an experience. Oh well, there's always the bar and the hot tub!
Mr Ed, your cruise should be fun, except for getting on and off the vessel...I understand those lines are horrendous, although you may luck out. How long is the cruise?
Carol - I am completely in the dark on "Mollis". I've never heard them called anything but Exbury so I'll have to enlighten myself. Mollis probably is connected to the genetic name(which I would know absolutely NOTHING about). I love the variations in color they have though. This is the first one I have ever seen that has variegated coloring. It probably is a new hybrid... I don't remember... and of course, I threw the tags away that might have an explanation.
Several of my Dahlia plants have started to come up now so maybe I didn't lose them all. I dug up a couple of the rhyzomes last weekend & they were toast! That week of 10º temps over the winter was just too much for them.
Carol - I Googled the Mollis/Exbury question and boy did I get an education. It seems there are several strains of Azalea that have been hybridized under different names... Mollis, Exbury, Ghent, and Knaphill... and they are all slightly different. Who knew???? Reference So I don't know which variety I have. I guess I have to stop throwing away those little tags that tell you about the plant. It's either that or I could just refer to them as "Swamp Azalea".... ummmmmm, no, I see that name is already taken....
Carol - The cruise is only a week but I think that's enough to see the glaciers and the few stops that Alaska has. I've seen the Gardens in Victoria so I'll probably either stay aboard or just wander around the town. I've been on fifteen cruises so far and getting on and off the ship has never been a problem. There's always the hassle of registration and getting checked in but they have so many agents working the lines that they really go pretty quickly. I've never seen a line longer than maybe six people. You check in alphabetically with an agent, get your shipboard ID card, tag your baggage with your proper room identification tags, and go onboard. They deliver your baggage to your room a few hours later. Boarding is spread out over several hours... whenever you get there within the allotted timeframe. Getting off takes the longest and it is done in groups assigned to different time slots to keep the volume manageable. I usually just sit in the lounge until my group is called and you pick up your baggage on the dock. It's all sorted into separate pick-up areas according to your disembarkation group. All you do is tag your bags and leave them in the passageway and the crew does the rest. Considering that the ships carry two to three thousand passengers, it really goes very fast. I have more problem with the airport hassles. The Cruise personnel treat you with the utmost courtesy and are there to "spoil" you. In fifteen cruises, I've only had one that I would classify as "bad" and there was nothing the staff could have done to change that.... although they definitely tried. That was the one where I was ready to tie a rope around the waist of a Mexican kid and throw him over the side to troll for sharks. There were enough of them that I would have had a long-lasting fresh supply of bait. I don't think their families would have missed them because no one was even paying attention to what they were up to. That was my LAST cruise (or trip) to or from Mexico... EVER!
Well, your the expert on cruises. all I know was what I read and cannot now remember whether it was a site for travel or a remarks site. Anyway, most of the remarks were about boarding the ship in Seattle and the awful wait to get on and off. This was a number of years ago so they obviously have reassessed the situation to make it smooth. We just have no desire to be 'trapped on a ship' and have guided tours. We're more the loner types.
Carol - I've only taken cruises with two lines; Royal Caribbean and Princess and they were both about the same. I would NEVER go on Carnival or Disney. They have the worst reputation. And, I'm far from an expert on it. I just haven't had any problems like what you described. On one Caribbean cruise, Princess held the ship in St. Thomas for several hours to allow several passengers (including me) who missed the sailing out of San Juan due to our flight being delayed by an in-flight emergency.
Cruises are like Whitman Samplers and they're not for everyone. If I find someplace I want to really explore, I go back for an extended vacation there. On a cruise I very rarely take a guided tour. Most places I just explore on my own and rent a car or hire a local taxi for the day. The taxi drivers are very knowledgeable and make you a real deal on a fare they can count on for the entire day. That way I go where I want to go, see what I want to see, and set my own pace however I want. Most of the cruises I've taken have been to places I'm very familiar with. I just enjoy the shipboard ambiance and being pampered by a staff that doesn't know how to say "no"! Want three lobster tails for dinner or Crème brûlée with each dinner? Just ask your waiter.... They are very GOOD at spoiling you. I think most of the negative comments you see online about cruises come from people who have never actually gone on one.
I just discovered that I have rose buds very close to being ready to open! I haven't paid that much attention to them because I've been putting together my Annual pots. Surprise, surprise!!! I guess they're right on time though because it's almost Rose Festival time here in Puddle City! That's when rain and roses always come together!

Today's cover shot: A new Exbury I planted last year in full bloom this year. It seems to like its new home.
Tuesday! It's just a day that occupies time and space on the calendar. Make the most of it and it will simply go away!
Pretty flower!!!
Can't wait to see what Freddy got done after I left yesterday. I just hope I can keep the new boss out of my way.
