We're headed for another mild heatwave here in the swamp with temps in the low 100s for a couple of days. I'm going to take advantage of it and finish cleaning up my pond. It's looking pretty good and I've already thinned the fish population a lot. Now it's just thinning the plants so the fish have more room to be fish. I'd like to eventually get rid of all the goldfish and have nothing but Koi but that may be wishful thinking.
Surprise, Surprise! Now they're sayin' it'll only be in the 90s for the next couple of days. Shoot! I can do that standing on my head.... but probably not in the pond come to think of it. Summer in the swamp! It just doesn't get much better!
Oops! Now they're talking about thunderstorm activity. Picture me sitting on a large bed of pins and needles! Hot and dry is one thing but lightning causes me a lot of concern since I've got all these tall trees that seem to attract strikes.
Only into the mid 80s today. Nice weather for July. Should be fairly clear for most of the weekend maybe some rain late Sunday afternoon into evening. I'll take it.
Mr. Ed....I heard the same thing about the thunderstorm stuff. It's clouding up here now and is getting sort of muggy. Stay out of the way of the trees, if you can. Stand in the pond, LOL.
Mariposa - OMG!!!! SERIOUSLY???? Did I accidentally find the ONE person in the world that doesn't..... NAH!!!! No way! I feel my leg being YANKED!
Carol - Yeah! Right!! In the middle of a thunderstorm I'm going to stand in the middle of a freakin' lake???????? I can see me now with a Koi in one hand and a Catfish in the other... lightning crackling off my hair.... shaking my fists at the thunder boomers.
I'm not worried about the trees that might get hit by lightning. I'm worried about the fires that could get started. At 500 trees per acre I could quickly lose a LOT of timber with just a very small fire. I've escaped any burns for several years.... (keeping my fingers crossed)! But, I'm surrounded by Forest Service and big company timber holdings and they haven't always been so lucky so I hold my breath a lot. I have a fire break around all my properties so I've already done about all I can to keep an outside fire from spreading into my timber. The problem with lightning fires is that they can smolder for days before they flare up as a serious burn. But, with the improved surveillance the Weather Service now has, every lightning strike is mapped with GPS coordinates so it can be watched. Also on the plus side, we're not in a serious dry spell yet so the risk right now is extremely low. I just get extremely nervous and very paranoid this time of year.
Mariposa - Beer & Pizza sounds goooood! I may get the beer but I'm sure I'll have to go for something else. I'm supposed to be having dinner out with friends.... and it's not at a Pizza Parlor.

I know who he is but I could care less. Pro basketball is not my thing. I just can't wrap a quilt around it.
Mariposa - That was my first guess.
