Today's cover shot: The view from the Heights toward Mt. Hood.... obscured in clouds but it's there!

No word yet from St. Croix on Mermaid. I'm really torn at the prospect of getting rid of her but I'm facing the reality that they probably will never allow me to feel the salt spray in my face at any point in the foreseeable future. Damn QUACKS!!!!

Tuesday..... already! Have a bodacious one!

Mr.Ed, I'm sure you do have mixed feelings about your Mermaid. Still, it's better to be safe than out on the ocean with no help available if something were to happen to you again. At our age, we never know. Of course if you feel like gambling, you could fly down, weigh anchor and sail off. I wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to do that though.

We did make it to the coast yesterday and Owsald Park was beautiful. Sun, light wind -- ahhhh! Then we went to Ft Stevens and it was soooo windy that I went back to the car after walking about 10'!!! Joe tried to go farther, but came right back. Said he could hardly stand up. It was about 3:00 then anyway so we went home via Astoria. All in all it was a very nice change from the normal routine. :)

Carol - In my HUMBLE opinion, a trip to the coast is always worth the cost.

Carol - The way I'm looking at it - even with Mermaid gone, I can still fly where I want to go... put my toes in the water & my butt in the sand and snorkel to my heart's content. They don't want me to scuba but that's okay. I've dived the reefs with the sharks and sting-rays and I can live with it. And, if things change in the future I can always get another boat if I want. In reality, Mermaid has been a very expensive and high-maintenance mistress for several years and I haven't been able to enjoy the pleasure of her company. It was against my will but I changed direction several years ago & now it's time to turn off the turn signal and wrap it up. If these buyers don't accept my counter, someone else will. Mermaid's a GREAT boat and there's no reason to just give her away.

Carol - Did you visit the Peter Iredale?

As I said, the wind was howling, I didn't get 10 feet from our car before turning back...we've seen it before and were under-impressed. It's just a smallish, rusty heap. Joe wanted to walk on the beach but even he couldn't take that wind. Due to the land formation, the weather is so different from place to place.

Carol - I was at the Iredale a couple of weeks back. I'll share the pic tomorrow.
