Today's cover shot.... just an old barn that captured my eye.

S-a-t-u-r-d-a-y... Yay!

I ran into a couple of light showers going to and coming from dinner but nothing to get excited about. And, looking at the latest report from the Weather Bureau, it looks like we may not get anything significant here in the swamp until possibly Sunday. It just all looks like very light showers through most of the weekend but with no wind to speak of. I like that prospect.

The Ducks have a BYE this weekend but my Beavs are at San Diego for a non-conf game. It should be an easy one for them if they keep playing with some intensity.

Have a great Saturday! I sure will!

It has turned out to be a very nice day to mark the official end of summer here in the swamp. Mostly sunny with puffy cotton ball clouds everywhere... a few darker ones but nothing threatening. So far we're only in the 60s but that's okay... I can live with it.

With the nice weather, I've got a full day of mowing and general cleanup to accomplish. I try to get most of it done before the leaves turn & start to fall. It makes it easier that way not having to do two jobs at once. For an "old retired guy" I sure don't get too many days off! Whine.....

I wonder who will win this one?

worked in the borders this morning, got it all cleaned up and Joe trimmed some trees - good thing we did that then as we've had showers all afternoon.

Mariposa - WTH???? Did FAMU have the cheerleading squad in by mistake? The Buckeyes will probably have to go out for some RAW STEAK after this one.

A brief (but intense) shower came through about noon. Did a great job of wetting things down.... including me! Had to go in & change clothes. I was drenched! It's mid 60s outside but I think I'll stay in where it's warm for a while. ☺☺☺

We just had a cloudburst over here, lasted about 1/2 hour. That will help the vegetation.

I'm hoping the fall rains will lessen the fire danger a little. I've got a lot of cleanup debris that I need to burn as soon as it's allowed out here. We cleaned about 50 acres to get it ready for tree planting this winter. Gotta get rid of the trash & get those babies in the ground.

You must own a lot of acreage there...I think you said your grandfather bought the land many years ago.
I'm glad you are such a good steward of it.
My cousins own many acres of timberland in a county close to the coast.

Carol - The pieces I've been working on are foreclosures I bought last year. They were nothing but stump patches & brush. They had been logged and partially cleared several years ago but the job was never completed and they were never replanted. I got one in shape last year and planted Christmas trees but this current one is going to be planted in Doug Fir. These last two pieces were separated from my land by a bit but the price was dirt cheap. They needed a lot of work to salvage them but it's coming along. Both had unlivable houses and the out-buildings weren't worth saving. I burned both of them after I drove a Cat through one and dismantled the other(a double-wide mobile home) piece-by-piece. It had been leaking for years and was full of mold and mildew. YUK!!!! The people who lived in it had four kids. He had a half case of beer a day habit and a real "winner" for a wife.
