Today's cover shot: A flight of Canadian Geese that probably resides on Swan Island west of Portland. Oregon has a giant population of ducks and geese that never migrate. The weather is mild enough and there's always plenty of food available for them so there's really no need.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Domingo! I don't have a thing planned but I'll be busy. It just always works that way! Have a great Sunday!
Fall officially arrives today. So much for the Dog Days of Summer! The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 4:44 P.M EDT and from there it's only downhill to winter. My only question: Do we "fall" into autumn or do we "fall" out of summer?????? It would really help me deal with it if I just had a hint. Inquiring minds need to know these things and as usual, I'm clueless.
I'll be DIPPED IN DOGGIE DOO!!!! My Beavs pulled out a win 34 - 30 against San Diego State. It took a fourth quarter interception & touchdown to do it but a win is a win!!!!!!! I watched part of the game at dinner and I wouldn't have bet fifty cents on their chances of a win with the way they were playing. I don't get the channel it was on & I couldn't watch the game at home so I missed the end. The Beavs were trailing badly when I left the restaurant.
Mariposa - It doesn't look like Florida ever did show up to play the Buckeyes.... 76 - NOTHING! Holy MERDE!
We see a lot of the Canada geese as we bike thru the city. They do a number on golf courses though and the golfers complain but there is not too much they can do to keep the geese away. They also do a lot of damage to fields that have just been planted.
We watched the Beavs (well, Joe did most of the watching) but they have no defense so it's a miracle they won. They don't play smart either.
It was a dark and stormy.... ummmmm... er...... day! By George, the forecast was right! Very blustery and wet out here in the swamp this afternoon just in time for the arrival of Fall. Temp has dropped back into the fifties after an earlier high of about 65. It's going to be an endurance test to see if the leaves can hang on in the wind we've got kicking up. I'm glad I have absolutely nothing on my plate that has to get done today. Later on I'm going into Oregon City (about 20 miles) for a dinner outing with friends. We're headed for a Mongolian restaurant that's kind of unique. It's the Mongolian Grill.... very simple but very good. I really like the food but the plum sauce really is the final touch. Very GOOD!!
Carol - I don't know of anybody who is a fan of "goose crap". And, they do pull baby plants out by the roots. But, despite how much of a pest they are, There's something about how they call to each other in flight that is very relaxing. I love listening to them "talking" to each other. Plus, they are so graceful and so LOYAL to their mates. Mark me down in the "fan" column but I don't play golf and they can eat all my grass they want.
Yeah, I'm with you on the geese. We don't golf either and it's not my grass they eat, our lawn is not big enough to tempt them...and not in an open area either. I also love to hear them "talking" as they fly.
We have a Mongolian Grill here on NE 122nd right off of Halsey. Been there for years, but we've never eaten there. Not much for that type of food.
Mariposa, glad you enjoyed your week off. Is this an ok time to move my Iris? It's been raining since noon (it's now 4:20) so Fall has definitely fallen here.
Carol – To transplant the Iris: It's the perfect time of the year. Cut the tops off so you have only about two inches of stem sticking above the soil surface. Dig up the rhyzomes & transplant them with as much soil left on the roots as possible. Cover them so they have the two inch stem above the soil surface. Water them in & they’ll do fine. Wet feet but dry knees is the key to fall bulb or ryzome transplanting. ☺

Carol - They definitely are not the DUCKS!

Well it was nice while it lasted, but back to work tomorrow.
It was a nice sunny cool day here. I'm about to head out and plant some iris.

Carol I'm no expert on moving plants. But I'm pretty sure they have a late summer to early fall planting time.
