Carol - I didn't mean to ignore your question yesterday about the "Grapes of Wrath" shack. It is on the property near Pahrump, Nevada I inherited and from everything I can find out so far, it was a squatter that built on property he didn't own. That apparently was pretty common in Nevada and Arizona. Only one person I talked to could remember anything and they thought it was the "Dahl" place.... a dead end... no records! My uncle bought the property about thirty years ago. I'm still trying to find out why but it appears that is a mystery I'll never solve. Everything he bought was for development but from what I see, this one doesn't fit that. On the plus side, it's not on any listing as a "historical" site so when it falls down it's not a big deal.

My sister is like a kid in a candy store. I gave her my car today and she was off and running, and running, and running. You get the idea...

Mr.Ed, thanks for the info on the "shack". I'm not too surprised that there are no records. As you said, it was common for squatters to live on land that was not theirs. Way back then there was not too much (or any)enforcement and people knew that. If I remember correctly you could "squat" on property for a period of time and acquire the property under adverse possession.

Mariposa - What year is the car you gave (traded) to her?

Carol - A lot of those squatter claims were settled at the point of a gun with the houses burned to the ground. It's very possible my uncle paid them off but I think the shack was already vacant when he bought the property.
